How to Translate Instagram Stories

Posted by   on

Instagram is one of the most popular social networking services in the world. Despite being one of the oldest contenders out there, it’s still reeling in new users every day, and we believe the trend won’t change anytime soon. The reasons behind the company’s success aren’t easy to deduce, but constantly improving accessibility features have to be right there at the top.

As part of its latest venture, Instagram is taking on one of the biggest obstacles in the world of social media — the language barrier — and is set to walk away as an outright winner. Today, we’ll check out what the new feature is and how it allows you to translate Instagram Stories easily.

What is the new translation feature?

Instagram has supported translations for posts and comments for a while now, but it didn’t have the ability to translate the caption of Instagram Stories. Now, with the latest update, users would be able to translate Instagram Stories, see them in their preferred language. Most importantly, they won’t need to jump through hoops to get this done. All will be taken care of automatically.

How to translate Instagram Stories

If you come across an Instagram Story post that uses a foreign language as its text caption, Instagram would generously offer you the option to translate it to your default language. To use the feature, first, navigate to the Story with the foreign language text. If all goes to plan a ‘See Translation’ button would appear at the top-left corner of your screen. Tap on it.

The translated caption would be shown at the bottom of your screen.

It is to be noted that Instagram doesn’t offer audio translation yet.

Why can’t you see the ‘See Translation’ option?

The ‘See Translation’ option is a server-side feature. However, there are a couple of things you have to keep in mind. First, the ‘See Translation’ option only appears when you are on a Story post with a foreign text caption. It won’t work if it’s a song-lyrics Story. Second, Instagram currently understands and can translate 90 languages. If the Story you’re on uses a super obscure language, Instagram would probably fail to translate it.
