FIX: Windows 10 can’t map network drive

What can I do if Windows 10 can’t map network drive?


1. Update to 20H2 version



  1. Open Settings.

  2. Click on Update & Security section.

  3. On the left side, select Windows Update, then click the Check for updates button.

  4. Look under View optional updates and click on Download and Install.

  5. Click on the Restart now button.


2. Add the ProviderFlags registry value



  1. Press the Windows + R keyboard shortcut.

  2. In the opened Run dialog box, type regedit and press Enter.

  3. Locate the following: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Network\ 

  4. Create a new DWORD (32-bit) value named ProviderFlags.

  5. Double click on the created value and in the Value data box, type 1.

  6. Repeat this action for each mapped network drive on the computer.

  7. Click OK, and exit Registry Editor.

  8. Restart Windows.

When locating the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Network\ make sure that after the last \ you type your own mapped drive letter.



3. Use Local Group Policy Editor



  1. Press the Windows + R keys.

  2. In the opened Run dialog box, type gpedit.msc and press Enter.

  3. Once you’re inside the Local Group Policy Editor, select Local Computer Policy.Local Computer policy

  4. Extend Computer Configuration, then click on Administrative Templates.

  5. Look at the right side and double-click on the System section from the shown list.

  6.  Scroll down to Logon and double-click on it.

  7. Click on Exclude credential providers, then, on the left side, on policy settings.

  8. Checkmark the Enabled option.

  9. Click on Apply and then on Ok.

  10. Restart your computer, wait for the next startup to complete, and try to access it once again.


4. Use a Batch file



  1. Open Notepad.Open Notepad

  2. Copy the following lines and paste them in the opened Notepad window: timeout /t 30 and net use z: "\\networkname\sharedfolder" /persistent:no

  3. Save the file as mapdrive.bat.

  4. Press Windows + R keys, type shell:startup in the Run dialog box and press Enter.

  5. Once you open the Startup folder, place the batch file mapdrive.bat or its shortcut in it.


5. Use Credential Manager



  1. Open Control Panel.Open Control Panel

  2. Click on User Accounts.Access User Accounts Control Panel

  3. Select Manage your credentials.Open Manage your credentials

  4. Click on Windows Credentials.Open Windows Credentials option

  5. Extend your Windows Credentials option, next to the name of the network computer.

  6. Click on Remove in order to delete the stored credentials from the particular computer or share.

  7. Click Yes when you’re asked if you are sure you want to permanently delete this Windows credential.

  8. Exit the Credential window, open This PC, right-click on the mapped drive, and then on Disconnect.

  9. Restart Windows and map the network drive again.
